Helen Keller Junior High School (or Keller Junior High) is a public middle school in Schaumburg, Cook County, Illinois; which educates children in grades seven and eight. The school was named in honor of Helen Keller, a deaf-blind public author, activist, and lecturer. It is operated by Community Consolidated School District 54.
As of 2011, the school principal is Mrs. Sue Mayernick. The school enrolls approximately 660 students annually. The school mascot is the wildcat. Lakeview, Enders-Salk, Hoover, and Fairview elementary schools all feed into Keller.
The students are divided into four academic teams. Each team has a core group of teachers representing language arts, math, social studies, science and physical development. Students also have an opportunity to take two elective classes in art, general and instrumental music, Spanish and technology education.
Keller students also have an opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities including interscholastic and intramural athletics, GEMS (Girls in Engineering, Math and Science), SAFE Team, Character Council, yearbook, cheerleading, pompons and the school newspaper.
Sports teams include cross-country, basketball, girls’ volleyball, wrestling and track. These teams compete against other schools in District 54.
